Agree with all your points. In fact, I use gmail much as your colleague does for important emails that come through an Outlook account.

I noticed you mentioned gmail in the article. It has amazing search capabilities. For example, If you want to see all the e-mails that were about project X, you can just search for it. You can also do a search from within there for all e-mails about project X to your boss….even if it was 6 months ago.

If you’re using a different client you aren’t going to have this awesome search capability, but I know a guy who uses outlook for his e-mail and hates all the search tools available there, that he uses gmail to search for e-mails.

Another thing to consider is that those who use gmail would really benefit from shifting paradigms. From one of sorting everything to searching for individual items as needed.
