Favor Request – I need your help

Post image for Favor Request – I need your help

It’s been a pleasure to create this blog for you

Over the past year of writing Making Project Management Better, my goal has been to provide at least one solid post every week.  The focus is to help you as a project manager become better at what you do – more effective, more skillful, and of more value to your employer.

It’s a soft skills blog

…because I believe project management is really about developing great relationships with people. Too little of our formal training helps us excel in this area. I want you to feel that by reading this blog, you are encouraged to better yourself little and often.  A wise person said that teaching others is the best way to learn.  By writing for you I continue to find areas for me to improve.  It’s an exciting and energizing process.

It’s about colleagues

My hidden purpose in creating this blog has been to develop lasting friendships with other project managers throughout the world.  Have you and I communicated through email, IM or twitter?  I truly look forward to continuing our conversation in future.

It’s non-commercial

If you read something here, it’s because I believe it to be worth your consideration – not because I’m getting a kickback of some sort. This blog is my way to serve.

Usually I don’t ask for your help.  This post is a rare and necessary exception.

Why this post

I’m getting ready to put up a separate hire me subdomain to help generate new work.   Work has been off for me as well as others in 2009.  I’m currently looking for a full-time project.  I can work 1099, corp-to-corp, contract or FTE1 with or without health benefits.

How you can help

Have you had a positive experience with me?

If you have anything nice to say about working with me, or about something you’ve gotten out of a post you’ve read, or from this blog in general,
please add it as a comment to this post.

You don’t have to write much.  It can be unpolished.  Specific is good.
Real is best.

Your comments will be helpful for prospective employers in identifying why they might want to hire me.

Job leads

I’ve been focusing my search in the New York City area, and would particularly appreciate any leads you might have for people who have the ability to hire project managers, or know those who do.

I can easily travel up to 4 days per week, and would be happy to work anywhere in the US and/or eastern Canada.

My rates are market competitive – neither cheap nor expensive.

Please tweet this post

Spreading this message may provide a lead neither you nor I can envision.  Vive le social network!

Thank you

Your help will allow me to provide you with great content for many years to come.

Hi Alec,

I just stopped by to say that I really love your blog. From the topics you choose and the way you write I can tell you really care about Project Management and especially people. And you provide a wealth of knowledge and guidance for free.

Thank you. We sometimes forget this to tell to the people who spend hours for free writing blogs.

I am sure you’ll find a gig soon.
Cheers
Bas

Alec – I’ve followed your wonderful project management blog for some time and have only recently began benefiting from your updates on twitter. You have a lot to offer a PM, and any Org for that matter, in terms of industry experience and I love that you share your personal insights here with us at Making Project Management Better. Your focus on soft skills is always appreciated as it is often an overlook side of the PM world and I love reading your thoughts on the subject – you obviously put a lot of time and energy into your blog and it is a wonderful contriubution to the PM community.

I know from your writing that you are positive, focused, and most important you are networking and keeping the bus moving. You will find the next great thing soon as you are doing all the right things – keep it up!

Best,

-R

Alec and I worked together for a little over a year. I can honestly say he is one of the most –if not the most– proficient, practical Project Manager I’ve worked with in my 12 years of professional experience.

I truly recommend Alec for any organization that wants to successfully implement a project, improve the way they manage their projects, plans to implement a PMO, or wants to improve their existing one.

Alec, feel free to use my name as a reference.

Hello Alec

We have crossed blogs a couple of times and I always enjoy what you have to say. You write well, have great enthusiasm for project management and if I was hiring I’d get you on my bus!

I’m sure you’ll find something soon.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth

I have known Alec for over 25 years. He is a person of clear vision, generous spirit, terrific honesty, intelligence, wisdom — and a great sense of humor, too.

There are some people in the professional world who, in ten years on a job, essentially get one year of experience ten times. Alec is one of those few, remarkable people who garners 2 years of experience for every year on the job, because he has such a quick mind and such an intuitive grasp of any exercise in which he is engaged.

If I were hiring a project manager, or a manager of any sort, I would be thrilled to be able to grab Alec to work for me. Whoever lands him is a lucky employer.

I have known Alec for almost a year, and our paths have crossed on mutually interesting forums.

I am currently collaborating with Alec on a project to be released this summer (or sooner) and he has been excellent to work with.

Alec is focused, organized and keeps up with the latest trends and shifts taking place in the project management space. He has an in depth understanding of process management, and understands the difference between strategies and tactics. He is capable of looking at the big picture while bringing specifics down to the runway level to lay out specifically where the next steps lie.

Alec also has an excellent grasp of how to use technology to streamline processes rather than hampering them. While we are collaborating across oceans, continents and a 6 hour time difference, I have never felt distant to Alec. He keeps me updated, follows up on my progress and maintains contact without coming across as overbearing.

Alec is a growing force on the web and has already caught the attention of multiple project, process and time management writers – authorities in their respective spaces. I wholeheartedly recommend Alec based on my past and continued positive experience working with him.

Alec enters a business exchange looking for how he can help, and works from the perspective of what he can offer. I’m confident that his very sincere approach serves Alec well in his role as a PM who needs to cultivate project champions within client organizations, and motivate cross functional teams to work to a higher standard. I hire many Project Managers and find few that have these instincts. Alec impresses immediately and follows through with substance.

Alec,

What a great help this was, it only took you a few seconds to do, but it will help me a lot. Now I just have to learn how to use this tool, it should be easy, and fix up my sites.

Thanks again!

I’ve known Alec for about two years and had the pleasure of working with him for one. I’m a PMO Manager and Alec was a senior level project manager in the PMO who consistently met project schedule, budget and quality objectives — making me look good. I would often consult with him for input on decision making and problem solving. Alec was supportive and frequently asked what he could do to help make my job easier. Alec took the initiative to make several common sense process improvements in the organization so that operations ran smoothly. Highest possible recommendation.

I met Alec through my blog. He was among the first few people who left a comment when I had just started out. He even remembered when I was appearing for my exam and emailed me with best wishes the night before.

He has helped me over time and has been a great virtual mentor when I needed it the most. I haven’t met him yet but we’ve communicated via IM and emails; he is a wonderful person and his capability to motivate and reach others is phenomenal. A true inspiration, I can only imagine what it would be to work with him. I wish I could be part of his team.
