Not too long ago a colleague of mine opened his desk to show me an impressive collection of USB Flash drives. “These last for a while, and then fail,” he said.
If you’ve ever used USB Flash drives to transport files to and from work, you know how convenient they can be. They’re small, can handle large files, and are easier to create and modify than CDs or DVDs. The biggest business-related risks include loss (meaning potential compromise of private, proprietary and/or confidential data) and device failure. For these reasons, you might think about using some sort of encryption, and about backing up the drive at least daily. Like my colleague, I’ve also had drives fail, often at less-than-convenient times.
Enter the Dragon (with respect to Bruce Lee)
IronKey bills itself as the world’s most secure USB flash drive. It provides fast hardware encryption to protect your data. It’s also built using the highest quality memory available. This should translate into a long lasting drive. Other points are the extreme strength of the case, and the built in private browser.
My experience
I’ve found my 4GB IronKey to be much faster than my previously used Samsung and Sandisk flash drives. The IronKey just works. While I’ve never lost a drive, it can happen. I feel much more secure now knowing that my data cannot be accessed if a loss were to happen.
This is a highly recommended product very much worth the premium price.
