Great points.  A lot of this depends on the particular organization and situation.  In many cases it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE to rush forward and do something.  This is especially true if you know that it contradicts the company&#039;s or leader&#039;s direction.  Hence the need in everything for common sense.

One definition of an environment in which any personal initiatives or efforts are destined to be canned: prison.

		<description>Ok, so I understand, and even agree with, what I think your point is.  I disagree, however, with the way you said it.  Western culture, particularly U.S. culture, has succumbed to the &quot;Nike philosophy&quot; of Just Do It.  I definitely agree that people more often than not hold themselves back by not seeking empowerment and taking it when they find it.  I don&#039;t agree with having people ask for forgiveness...rather, how about when someone sees an opportunity, they start the process IN PARELLEL WITH letting someone in authority know they are starting?  That way, the thing gets addressed if there&#039;s no response from the decision-making authority or it gets canned by the authority BEFORE precious time and energy is wasted.</description>
